1st. Facs. Ed. Pub. Prospect Books. 1983 pp.xii, 216. Small 8vo. TEG. Fine hardback.
‘In 1744 was published ‘Adam’s Luxury, and Eve’s cookery’, a little treatise which, according to the introduction was ‘chiefly design’d for the instruction and benefit of country people, who most of them have a little garden spot belonging to their house, and at the same time let it lie useless, for want of knowing how to properly manage it’. The rarity of this excellent little book, which gives practical information on kitchen gardening followed by a collection of cooking receipts, may be due to most copies being worn out through constant use, not only by the family gardener but also by the cook.’ (Henrey).
