Environmentalist Richard St. Barbe Baker’s work touched the lives of many people. The stamps relate to St. Barbe’s proposal to plant a band of trees across Africa to stop the southern advance of the Sahara.

Author’s inscription to half-title ‘To Lady Grogan, with all good wishes from a friend of Sir Hugh, Richard St Barbe Baker, 15th October 1941’. Contents exceptionally clean and fine. More recently rebound in blue cloth with gilt lettering to spine. A super copy.
Baker, famously known as the "Man of the Trees," was a lifelong advocate for forest preservation and this volume contains forty eight tree studies by the author.
