Blomfeld was an architect and defender of the formal style of landscape design, who came into conflict with William Robinson, the advocate of a wilder, more natural style. With illustrations by F. Inigo Thomas, this is a historical survey of the formal garden, covering all kinds of garden architecture as well as the use of symmetry and symbolism.
