Bookplate of John Corbett, English industrialist, philanthropist and Liberal Party politician of the Victorian era. Charming, neat inscription to ffep. Disbound. The gutta percha binding has perished meaning each leaf is separate. Some light spotting and marks to contents - one page with a short closed tear, o/w. contents fine. In original cloth boards showing wear to spine. A very charming work indeed.
Consists of chromolithograph plates with accompanying facing poem printed from type in gold. Illustrated title page, flower illuminations attributed to Noel Humphreys by McLean,

Contemporary half-calf good, showing some wear and repair. With an advert (c.1840) pasted to rfep. for Edward Newman’s ‘A History of British Ferns’ which was published in 1840.
The person who had the work bound was clearly keen on Ferns. All works are complete and with maps and plates present as published. Francis’ ‘British Ferns’ is the second edition in which all the plates were redrawn.
