The second, corrected and greatly extended, edition of John Kennedy’s arboriculture and gardening manual. Kennedy was the gardener for Sir Thomas Gascoigne (1745-1810). This work was first published in 1776 and covers a wide range of topics, including the planting of trees and crops on various land types, managing vines and fruit trees in hot-houses, and the culture of vines, pineapples, asparagus and mushrooms. The last two chapters are dedicated to the cultivation of cabbages and carrots as field crops for cattle. It also addresses practical matters such as soil preparation, pruning, propagation, and controlling pests.
