Introductory sections describe conservation activities and list priority breeding species and areas of importance to wildlife. Species are presented with short descriptive accounts, colour photos, breeding population estimates and distribution maps. Arabic names are also given for each species.

Some spotting to ends and very occ. to contents, occ. light pencil annotations, o/w. contents fine.. Cords stretched in a couple of places. Original blind decorated boards and gilt decoration to spine very bright and in thor. vg. condition.
Mullens and Swann (1917) wrote ‘the most popular book on the subject for beginners for half a century’. This first edition of 1861 was published with colour plates; a new edition appeared the same year with uncoloured plates.
