The second of a projected four-part third edition of the ICBP Red Data Book, following on from Threatened Birds of Africa and Related Islands, and to be finished with volumes on Europe and Asia, and Australasia and the Pacific. This volume covers in full the 302 threatened species of the Caribbean and Latin America, and in summary form 25 species of North America and the eastern Pacific islands (these species will be covered in detail in the fourth volume). Each species account includes a brief summary, followed by sections on distribution, population, ecology, threats, conservation measures taken and proposed. Appendixes cover threatened birds by category of threat, by country, and near threatened birds of the Americas.
