Comes with a interesting typed note about the erythristic egg of the Glaucous Gull featured on Plate 32 (the information comprising the note having been extracted from Bannerman and Lodge’s ‘Birds of the British Isles).
This copy was given to Lieut. H.G.R. Bevan, R.N. in 1896 as part of the Beaufort Testimonial, and it bears a presentation to the ffep. The Beaufort Testimonial was an annual award of instruments or books of a professional character and of practical use to a Naval Officer ‘who scored highest in navigation and pilotage in examinations for promotion to the rank of Lieutenant’.
