Some spotting and minor offsetting, a little smudging to Chaffinch plate, o/w. contents fine. Marbled end-papers, minor evidence of bookplate. Later half morocco over marbled boards, with raised bands, gilt lettering and decoration to spine, all in nr. fine condition. Scarce and with the preferred coloured backgrounds.
Syme was by profession a drawing master and flower painter who published this work anonymously. The coloured plates occur in two states, viz. with and without coloured backgrounds; the copy offered for sale here features coloured backgrounds.
