Thomas Wildman was quite a showman and achieved fame (with his nephew Daniel) through trick performances with bees, including the wearing of a bee beard. Thomas Wildman understood the nature and behaviour of bees and this treatise ‘shows culture and an unusual knowledge of continental beekeeping’ (Harding 119).
