With seven loose period insertions, firstly Dobbie’s 4-page (A5) Potato Order form for 1939. Next their 8-page (A5) Seed Order Form for 1939. Thirdly, Dobbie’s 2-page Plant Order Form. Next comes an unused self-addressed Dobbie’s envelope, a small Dobbie’s advertisement in which they ask for customers to introduce them to other people, a further small advert from them in which they invite customers to write to their experts with gardening questions. Lastly, a flyer produced by The Scotland’s Garden Scheme ‘Visit the Beautiful Gardens of Scotland’ in which they advertise their Official Garden Handbook. A super group. Scarce.

Original decorated boards with gilt lettering thor. vg. with a little darkening to spine and lightly marked to front board.
Depicted here are the distinctive ornaments, stones and fences, landscape, temples and most of all, blossoms typical of the traditional Japanese garden. Written by sister of the artist, Florence Du Cane. Ella and Florence were two of the children of Sir Charles Du Cane and his wife Georgiana, the granddaughter of the Anglo-American painter John Singleton Copley.
