Neat signature date 1855 and small blind stamp of J. Calt, Bookseller to the Queen [Victoria] to ffep. Just occasional minor spotting and marking o/w. contents fine. Original blind-decorated boards in thor. vg. condition. A very pleasing copy indeed. Harding 215.

He asserts that he invented his collateral hive before ever reading a book on bees. He acquired many patrons and subscribers and made the hive and method very well known.' (Harding).

Light spotting to ends and occ. internally, o/w. contents fine. Some sections uncut. Original cloth boards spine professionally relaid in thor. vg. condition. A very pleasing copy. (Harding 215). Interestingly, this copy comes with a seldom seen typed note tipped in at title page which reads ‘Also may be had on application to my agent, Mr. G. Neighbour, 131, High Holborn, near Southampton Street, London, honey taken on the principles here specified, with hives stocked with bees, or unstocked. All letters must be post paid’.

5th. Ed. Pub. Blackwood and Sons. 1889 pp.xv, 172 with figs., plus 4-pages of Publisher’s adverts. 8vo. Ex- Lib. A couple of sections clumsily opened. A few lib. stamps o/w. contents very clean and nr. fine. Decorated cloth boards with gilt lettering and motifs nr. fine. (Harding 318).
Pettigrew advocated the use of a much larger skep than was usual, and obtained more honey from it (Harding 318).
