An advocate of naturalistic planting and complimentary colour schemes as early as the mid-19th century, Frances Jane Hope (1822-1880) originally wrote the articles reprinted in this work (printed posthumously), for the journals ‘Gardener’s Chronicle’ and ‘The Garden’.
