Chapman was a wide-ranging hunter-naturalist who, among other achievements, is credited with saving the Spanish ibex from extinction and helping to establish the Kruger National Park. This collection of reminiscences was published posthumously and includes coloured plates by W. H. Riddell and many illustrations within the text by the author..

Frohawk was a member of the Victorian natural history scene, many amateur naturalists’ gravitated towards him. This book tells the story of the life of this remarkable man and studies the development of his career as a naturalist. He was a gifted artist and illustrated a number of bird books but it was as an entomologist that he is best known, in particular butterflies.

1st. Ed. Pub. Crowood. 1987 pp.184 with colour and b/w. illus. 4to. From Eric Hosking’s library with reduced-size copy of his bookplate loosely inserted. Signed by both June Chatfield and F.W. Frohawk’s daughter, Valezina Bolingbroke. Fine hardback in fine dw.
Very unusual indeed to have both these signatures. Chatfield’s book is a must have for Frohawk enthusiasts. Valenzina Bolingbroke was a great admirer of her father and wrote a memoir about her father which is a delightful account with some charming pesonal ancedotes.
