Bisgrove, R. William Robinson. The Wild Gardener.
1st. Pub. Frances Lincoln. 2008 pp. 256 with colour and b/w. photographs and line drawings throughout the text. New copy. With dustrwrapper.
Curiously, despite his enormous literary output and his position at the centre of and international circle of distinguished horticulturists, William Robinson remains a suprisingly enigmatic figure. He was generous to friends and retainers but ferocious in his attacks on opponents. A populariser rather than a pioneer, but undoubtedly one of the greatest figures in late nighteenth and early twentieth-century gardening.
